Day 1

ATHENS/CORINTH/

MYCENAE/

EPIDAURUS/NAUPLIA

Motor along the coast to visit Ancient Corinth, where St. Paul preached.

 

Continue to Mycenae. Admire the Beehive Tombs, the Treasury of Atreus, Lion Gate, remains of Agamemnon's Royal Palace, and the Citadel.

 

A short drive to Epidaurus. Overnight in nearby Nauplia. (B,D)

Day 2

NAUPLIA/OLYMPIA

Spectacular scenery on the way through the Arkadian Mountains.

 

Afternoon in Olympia,  walk among the remains of the Gymnasium and the Temples of Hera and Zeus. Also visit the museum. (B,D)

Day 3

OLYMPIA/DELPHI

 

Drive to the busy seaport of Patras, take the ferry across the Gulf of Corinth.

 

Afternoon is devoted to a tour of the ancient sanctuary of the God Apollo on the slopes of Mount Parnassus.  Finally visit the Archaeological museum. (B,D)

Day 4

DELPHI/        METEORA AREA/ KALAMBAKA

Travel north via Lamia and Trikala to Kalambaka. Visit Varlaam and St. Stephens Monasteries,  and an incredible panoramic view. (B,D)

Day 5

KALAMABKA/

THERMOPYLAE/

ATHENS

Drive past Larisa to Thermopylae, Proceed to the setting of Sophocles' Oedipus Rex; and Marathon. Arrive Athens. (B)

Day 6

ATHENS

Enjoy a tour of the capital's classical sights: the Parthenon atop the Acropolis, the Erechtheum with its Porch of Maidens, the preserved Theseum, Roman Temple of Zeus, Theater of Dionysus and the Agora. Visits of the Royal Palace,

 

 The rest of the day is at leisure. (B)
